GERARD SANDOZ. A silver and niello cigarette case

The rectangular-shaped silver case, of Machinist design, applied to the front and back with a geometric motif in niello, circa 1925, signed Gérard Sandoz, indistinct French assay marks, maker's mark. Length 8.5cm, width 6cm. Note: Niello, so-called as it derives from the Medieval Latin for 'black', is a black substance applied in decorative inlay work, for the most part composed of the base metal with sulphur, copper and lead.
